Book Review: Bad Paper: Chasing Debt from Wall Street to the Underworld

Another excellent read if you want to learn about Collection Agencies. How they break the law & harass people that fall behind because of hard times such as losing a job, medical issues etc.

Did you know that cell phone companies, credit cards or any unsecured loan etc. sell your accounts to these collectors for pennies on the dollar.

In New Brunswick the statute of limitation is 2 years of which they are able to collect on that account.

They will call you & lie & tell you that if you pay such & such amount that it will be settled but without you having it in writing they can still continue to harass you for money.
You have to have a letter saying that it is settlement in full.

This is a must read to see how it all works.
You can get the book on Amazon

If an unsecured debt is not collected within these time limits, you or your collection agency cannot take legal action against it. Should the debtor acknowledge the debt in writing or make one or more payments towards it, the statute of limitations is reset to its original duration. In most provinces a court judgment is valid for 10 years, and can be renewed thereafter for another 10 years. In Ontario, there is no expiry of a judgment, however a Writ of Seizure and Sale is valid for 6 years after which it must be renewed to enforce the judgment.
